Fermentation Basics Workshop
Interested in learning more about the benefits of fermented foods? Did you know the same principles apply to fermenting all kinds of vegetables and even grains? Come learn to ferment, and you’ll go home ready to explore and create living foods. This hands-on class will cover everything you need to start fermenting: ingredients, philosophy, preparation, and more! Each participant will take home a pint jar of fermenting carrots— along with the knowledge and confidence to explore fermentation projects at home.
Cost: $30*
When: October 6 :: 9:30 am – 11:30 am
Location: Funky Farms (I will email the exact address to participants after registration)
What to Bring: A notebook and pen for note taking
What to Wear: Comfortable clothes and an apron if desired
On the Agenda
- We will review four lacto-fermenting processes/techniques, and I will share with you my favorite techniques and tools.
- We will make a batch of lacto-fermented curtido and sauerkraut using different techniques for you to decide which works best for you and your family.
- I’ll share my favorite techniques, resources, and books for your future lacto-fermenting.
- We will make a batch of lacto-fermented carrots for you to take home!
*Bring cash or check with you to the workshop. I am willing to barter if you are unable to pay. Email me your proposed bartering ideas, and I’ll let you know ahead of time if your proposal will work. Some of my favorites include: child care, dog/chicken sitting while we’re out of town, pastured poultry or meat, farm help, etc.
